Viacom have announced they’re opening Nickelodeon’s largest indoor theme park inside The Mall of China, Chongquing.

The 28,000 square meter entertainment zone is set to open in December 2020 and will cost over $750 million. The park will open with 29 themed attractions split across 14 Nickelodeon properties including characters from:

  • Spongebob Squarepants
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Dora the Explorer
  • Paw Patrol

We are thrilled to be collaborating with Jiayuan Group, China Creation Group and Triple Five to open Nickelodeon’s first indoor theme park in Asia,” said Gerald Raines, senior vice president of location based experiences for Viacom International Media Networks. “This is a testament to the power of Nickelodeon and our iconic characters that fans, kids, and families have come to love, which in turn, enables our ability to further boost the Nickelodeon entertainment experience for them.

The indoor park will feature a TMNT themed Launch Coaster which will be the highest, longest and fastest indoor roller coaster in the world. It will also host Asia’s first tilting drop tower.

Mark Whitehead, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Managing Director of Asia Pacific has said, “Creating immersive on-the-ground consumer experiences remains an important part of our business. As we continue to grow the footprint of Nickelodeon theme parks, I am confident this will also open up new opportunities for the Nickelodeon brand and for our partners across multiple platforms in this important Chinese market.”

Nickelodeon already have several other attractions in North America, Europe and Australasia but this will be their first project in China.
